“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

We all desire to show our “best selves” to others. But God knows what’s really going on inside and He wants to free us from the emotional whirlwinds we experience from time to time.

When we’re struggling with intense emotions, it’s sometimes difficult, if not impossible, for us to keep our focus on the important aspects of life, in light of our problems.

At times, I find myself caught up in what I call an emotional whirlwind, and it often happens before I even realize how consumed I am with my situation. During times like these, when I can’t seem to escape the constant swirl of emotions, I force myself to get down on my knees and ask God for help. Then, once I take time and allow Him to speak to my heart through His Spirit and His Word, I’m able to escape my emotional storm and better handle my current problem.

Just last week as I was preparing to leave town, I found myself growing anxious, stressed, and worried about having everything perfectly organized and prepared before I left. When I finally realized how worked up I was getting, I forced myself to stop and talk to God.

His Word reminded me to let go of my anxiety and allow His peace to protect my heart and mind from the stress I was creating.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let my requests be made known to God.” So that, “the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7

This was exactly what I needed to hear!

Perhaps you need to be reminded to turn to God with your concerns instead of focusing on circumstances that leave you feeling overwhelmed and in an emotional whirlwind.

Consider the areas in your heart that need attention and commit to the following 4 Steps:

1) Give all your cares and concerns to the Lord in prayer, journal your thoughts, and listen for His response.

2) Seek godly counsel and talk to a trusted friend.

3) Search God’s Word for verses that address your specific situation and emotions and commit them to memory.

4) Spend time listening to worship songs that will bring comfort and encouragement to your heart and praise to God!

Will you let another day go by leaving you trapped in a whirlwind of emotions? Or will you let go and let God comfort your heart?
