the reason we exist

Our Why

God offers everyone a full and satisfying life, but not everyone embraces it. We’ve found that many struggle with difficult life experiences, which create obstacles to meaningful relationships. It takes courage to identify and overcome these obstacles, pursue healing, and embrace life fully.

Courage For Life addresses the connection between emotional health and spiritual growth by developing and distributing emotional health, spiritual growth, and Bible study resources. We make these resources available to incarcerated individuals, those struggling with trauma, abuse, and addiction, and anyone who desires to grow in their relationship with God.

Based on Biblical Principles

Be Courageous

"This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

Live Abundantly

"The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life." John 10:10

Disciple Others

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20

The Bible Reveals Truth

The Bible Reveals Truth

We believe the Bible is the only trustworthy revelation from God to humanity, making the Bible a source of authority for our lives and a unique resource for discovering the truth about life, love, ourselves, others, and God. The Bible is how God continues to speak into our lives through the indwelling Holy Spirit, who acts as our interpreter.

Life Experiences Matter

Life Experiences Matter

We acknowledge that individuals have life experiences that create obstacles to embracing the abundant life promised by Jesus in John 10:10. However, our life experiences need not define us but can empower us to become what God intends. Therefore, we emphasize God’s grace, unconditional love and acceptance, and full forgiveness through faith in Jesus. This emphasis supports choosing to be courageous, live abundantly, and disciple others.

God Gives Courage

God Gives Courage

We believe Jesus offers us abundant life (John 10:10). However, we are responsible for taking hold of that promise by allowing God to provide courage founded on the truth of His Word, achieved through faith in Jesus, empowered by the work of the Holy Spirit, and supported with emotional health, spiritual growth, and Bible study resources.

Discipleship is Holistic

Discipleship is Holistic

We believe that God created all people with mind, body, and soul, signifying that Christian discipleship is holistic in its approach because all aspects of life – spiritual, emotional, relational, and physical health – impact the pursuit of God and the abundant life Jesus gives. Being a disciple of Jesus and making disciples of Jesus necessitates God-revealed truth, God-given courage, and Holy Spirit empowerment for the mind, body, and soul.

Our History

Throughout its journey, Courage For Life remains dedicated to addressing the connection between emotional health and spiritual growth. Its digital discipleship and prison ministry programs continue to break cycles of incarceration, trauma, abuse, and addiction.

2014
Since its founding in 2014, Courage For Life has been on a mission to empower individuals with God's Word and help them live a life of courage. The ministry was founded by Ann White, who was inspired by her own spiritual journey with God and how His Word brought restoration to her life and marriage. Ann's story is featured in her book entitled Courage For Life.
2018
From the beginning, Ann's heart was heavy for those suffering and needed to hear the message of God's Word. Drawing on her personal experience of grace, salvation, and the life-changing power of the Bible, Ann began creating resources to encourage others to embrace their God-given courage for life. The Courage For Life Study Guide was published in 2018, followed by She Is Strong and Courageous, a 90-day devotional designed to inspire daily Bible reading.
2019
As Courage For Life grew, it developed new avenues to reach more individuals. In 2019, Courage For Life partnered with Hobby Lobby Ministry Investment Foundation to sponsor the development of an all-female-voiced English audio Bible and launched its audio Bible app.
2020
Courage For Life partnered with Prison Fellowship's Floodlight program to distribute its digital Bible study content and spiritual growth devotionals, and Mega Voice and YouVersion to distribute its all-female voiced English audio Bible.
2021
Courage For Life continued its expansion, partnering with LUMO Project to create gospel videos using the all-female voiced English audio Bible and launching a Spanish version of the audio Bible. Courage For Life also partnered with YouVersion to distribute the Spanish audio Bible on their app. Courage For Life launched its digital discipleship programs including weekly blog content and its online community.
2022
Courage For Life expanded its resources by publishing men's and women's versions of the Courage For My Life workbook and DVD teaching series in English and Spanish. Courage For Life also established a new partnership with God Behind Bars and the Pando app to distribute Courage For Life digital resources to incarcerated individuals via Department of Corrections state-issued inmate tablets.
2023
Courage For Life collaborated with Tyndale House Publishers on the production of the Courage For Life Study Bible. These study Bibles offer practical teaching to inspire individuals to apply God’s Truth to their daily lives. Additionally, Courage For Life grew its digital discipleship programming through hosting live teachings, offering weekly blogs, and partnering with InTouch+ to distribute our video Bible studies.
2024
The growth of the prison ministry among incarcerated women necessitated Courage For Life produce an updated and revised reprint of the Courage For My Life women's workbook to accommodate replenishing its inventory to facilitate more discipleship classes while also increasing the digital resources available for distribution.
