The Weight of Waiting

June 10, 2017

“Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.” Isaiah 40:31

Waiting is never easy.

Invariably, when I’m in a hurry, I’ll choose the slowest checkout line at the store or get stopped by every traffic light on my way to an appointment. Patiently waiting throughout everyday life situations can be annoying, but there’s another kind of waiting that, at times, can be just as agonizing ––– waiting on God.

Are you currently waiting on God to answer the cries of your heart?

Have you ever felt the “weight” of waiting on God? When you need His help to resolve a stressful problem, bring clarity to a difficult situation, or fulfill a particular promise, do you find yourself growing increasingly impatient when He doesn’t come to the rescue right away?

As I transition from one season of life to another, I often feel the weight of waiting on God. Although I am confident God knows the answer, sees the outcome and has the ability to FIX my issues, I still ask, “God –– where are you and why don’t you go ahead and FIX this right now?”

Then, I’m reminded by God’s Word that His timing is perfect, His thoughts are higher than my thoughts, and His ways are better than my ways. And –– I’m reminded there’s a great blessing in store –– if I just sit still, wait on God, and learn to trust Him.

One such blessing of patience is the increase of faith. Patience and time are the “fertilizers” that strengthen our faith.

Therefore, when you’ve done all you know to do ––– wait on the Lord. And as you wait, draw near to God through prayer and reading His Word. The nearer you draw to God –– the weight of waiting will lighten.

I want to encourage you today- don’t give up! What God has spoken to you will come to pass. Keep trusting Him. Keep surrendering to God and His plan for your life, honor Him by serving others and take the time to be good to yourself.

Enjoy today because God’s faithful answer is on its way!
